Frequently Asked Questions

CALD stands for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse, a word used to describe people belonging to cultural or language groups that are not the major group in a particular place. In Australia, this typically refers to non-English speakers born overseas.

SMCS provides many services for people from CALD backgrounds, such as aged care, settlement services and community programs.

You must be assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) to be deemed eligible for a Home Care Package. The assessment includes identifying your care needs and whether a Home Care package will support you at home.

You can find your local ACAT team via the MyAgedCare website.

To be provided with a Home Care Package by Sydney MCS you must reside in the Local Government areas of Botany Bay, Randwick, Sydney, Waverley and Woollahra and Leichhardt, Marrickville, Ashfield, Canada Bay, Canterbury, Burwood and Strathfield.

The Federal Government pays the bulk of the costs associated with a Home Care Package. However, you are asked to make a contribution to the cost of the care, if you can afford to do so.

Costs and fees are discussed with our staff at first meeting and regularly after this to ensure you are able to afford the fees.

Sydney MCS provides a range of Aged Care and Community Support Services – personal assistance, domestic care, nursing, social support, carer support, transport and meal preparation all belong to our services. We focus on people from a cultural and linguistic diverse background, therefore, all our services are offered in the context of one’s language and cultural needs.

We are an Australian Government approved provider of Level 2 Home Care Packages in South East and Inner West Sydney, provide Centre Based Day Care options and have a funded Community Visitor Scheme.

Depending on your location, the type of Aged Care Support Services you require and the times and days you need services, getting started can take anywhere from a couple of days to several weeks.

Sydney MCS will keep you informed of progress towards service commencement and we are committed to deliver a prompt service.

Most of Sydney MCS care workers have obtained Certificate III and IV in Home and Community Care and hold extensive work experience in this industry.

Sydney MCS runs regular in-house training to ensure our care workers are on the latest stand in the aged care sector. All care workers have current first aid and CPR qualifications, a current driving license and up to date police checks.
